The Federal Interagency Council on Statistical Policy maintains this site to provide easy access to the full range of online statistics and information produced by more than 70 agencies of the federal government.  Among these agencies, the following are especially good sources of statistics:

 

     Bureau of Labor Statistics (http://www.bls.gov)  Statistics in the area of labor economics give   

     a detailed overview of the U.S. economy

Statistical Abstract of the U.S.

Ref. HA 202.A2 latest edition is kept in Ready Reference; online at http://www.census.gov/statab/www.

A government publication which compiles tables of statistics on virtually every topic.  Published annually

 

Statistical Universe

Accessible from the BSC Library’s Indexes & Databases page and from LexisNexis.

A powerful tool for locating statistics, this database indexes statistical publications produced by U.S. government agencies, state governments, and some international organizations.  It contains the full text of many of the statistical tables included in these publications.  Click on “power tables” to locate a table containing the statistic you need.  Many tables are available in Excel format and can be downloaded and manipulated.

Economic Census

Available online from the  US Census Bureau .

Conducted every five years, this census provides a wealth of basic statistics on the U.S. economy.  Data from the 2002, 1997 and 1992 censuses are available on the web; data for earlier years can be found in the BSC Library’s government documents collection

The Center for Business and Economic Research at the University of Alabama is a good source of economic and demographic data pertaining to Alabama.  The Center also publishes Alabama Economic Outlook (Ready Ref HC 107 .A4 A31 2000) on an annual basis and Economic Abstract of Alabama 2000 (Ready Ref. HC 107 .A4 E36 2000)
